The Cincinnati metro area has many fun food spots. This week I discovered one I plan to visit many, many more times! Tucked into a small enclave off State Routes 22 & 3 in Loveland on Cincinnati’s north east side is Rick McHenry’s wonderful Jus Smokin Hillbilly BBQ! While Rick has been delighting BBQ fans with his wood fired, smoked goodness for years, they have just recently moved to their new location–and decorating is still in progress. Don’t let the evolving decor throw you–this is seriously good BBQ!
The new location provides ample seating–including an outdoor seating area for beautiful summer days! The smoking goes on out back and what a great aroma! The meat selection includes:
- Pulled Pork in sandwiches or by the pound
- Pulled Chicken in sandwiches or by the pound
- Full or half-slabs of baby-back ribs
I tried–and loved–the pulled pork. Tender, moist and flavorful before I even hit the sauce bar. A full range of Sweet Baby Ray’s sauces plus my favorite, Cattleman’s Carolina Tangy Gold Sauce. The sides are typical BBQ lover’s sides: mac n’ cheese, green beans, coleslaw, potato salad and greens. I had the coleslaw and it was a good compliment to the mustard/vinegar bite of my chosen Carolina-style sauce.
The staff were courteous and helpful and owner Rick McHenry was more than happy to discuss his products. He has a true passion for BBQ–and I’d say for motorcycles as well!
Cincy has a vibrant Food Truck scene these days and the Jus Smokin Hillbilly Food Truck joins in various truck rallies in the Metro-area. Just look for the big orange truck! You can also hire them for catered events.
Like the new building, the website is also under re-development. Check back soon to view http://www.jussmokinhillbillybbq.com
They’re open from 11 to 9 and Rick posts helpful announcements on Twitter of hot-of-the-grill meats, specials and other fun stuff. You can follow him here:
