Thanks to blogger That Artsy Reader Girl for creating this book tag.
1. “All I Want for Christmas Is You”: Favorite bookish couple.
Well, my FAVORITES are in my manuscripts!
Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler are my all-time favorites
Honor Harris and Richard Grenville in The King’s General by Daphne DuMaurier are a close second. (I had to cheat and include them).
2. “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”: Name a book where a character is away from home (school, vacation, etc.).
I had to cheat a little. I couldn’t think of one, so I used this one because both main characters have to go away a lot. But family matters to both of them. Red, White & Royal Blue
3. “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”: Name your favorite “little” book (children’s book, short story, novella, etc.).
Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf also was made into a darned-good movie. But the book is still better. [Scroll down in the linked review to see this book.]
4. “Santa Claus is Coming to Town“: What book(s) do you hope Santa brings you this year?
I hope I get a gift card so I can buy it. In spite of Amazon lists being around for I can’t remember how long, my family always says “I’m afraid you have it already.”
5. “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”: Which book turned your nose red (made you cry)?
Me Before You by JoJo Moyes. I cried again with the movie–a rare “very nearly as good as the book” film.
6. “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”: Your favorite book/kind of book to read during the holidays.
I re-read this one annually. The Joyous Season by Patrick Dennis.
7. “We Three Kings”: Your favorite trilogy.
This was written as a trilogy. A marketing person added the Two-Part Invention to the Crosswicks Journals. They go together, but the Journals in my mind are a trio, not a quartet. Sadly, I read that Madeline L’engle’s children thought of these as ‘fiction’ for they differed that much from the reality that they, too, lived through in those years. Sad, but often true. I still love them.
I was going to use Jojo Moye’s Me Before You Trilogy but didn’t want repeats in this list.
8. “Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow”: A character with whom you would love to be snowed in. with.
Diesel! I know, I know–what about Ranger? Read. The. Book. Then you will understand. Visions of Sugar Plums by Janet Evanovich.
9. “Last Christmas”: A book that seriously let you down.
I love and admire Deitrich Bonhoeffer AND this was an older man–younger woman romance, so I should have loved it, but I didn’t. You can read about the couple in my post on them.
10. “White Christmas”: An upcoming release you’re dreaming about.
Poor Bertie–always stuck in those crushed-strawberry dungarees! And that mother! I love his friend, Tofu though. But then, too, there is Elsbeth and Matthew their triplets (how great a name is Tobemory? Yes, I know it’s a place in Scotland. Still….) Then there’s narcissist Bruce and his many girlfriends. And Cyril the dog with his gold tooth and his artist-owner/poet Angus Lordie and his new (ish) wife, anthropologist Domenica MacDonald. While some have moved since the series began many books ago, the address conjures up many happy listening memories. I love this series on audiobooks only. That seems to be the best way to enjoy Alexander McCall Smith, for I also only listen to his fabulous No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series–the new installment of which is up later this week on my car stereo. The Peppermint Tea Chronicles (44 Scotland Street) by Alexander Mc Call Smith.
I love music, so what a fun theme! I’m with you on enjoying Our Souls at Night — and, sadly, not feeling the love for Dearest Dietrich …

It just wasn’t MY Deitrich and Maria! It happens. Everyone loved White Houses and I hated it. It wasn’t MY Eleanor Roosevelt or MY version of the talented Lorena Hickock.
