Books With Nesting Dolls on the Cover

I’ve always been fascinated with Matryoshka dolls. You know the ones–you open one, and inside is a slightly smaller one and so on and so on until you reach the tiny one that doesn’t open. In Kiev years ago they were sold where ever you found tourists. At that time Bill Clinton and Michael Jordan were pretty popular as Matryoshka in addition to the traditional, head-scarfed Babuska or grandmother.

For this post, I’ve ignored children’s books or collectors guides and focused on fiction. There is, however, one memoir in the list.

The British cover of Mrs. Harris Goes to Moscow by Paul Gallico/

The Nesting Dolls by Alina Adams (currently only $1.99 for Kindle)

Nobody Will Tell You This But Me by Bess Kalb (memoir)

Snow in May: Stories by Kseniya Melnik (my review is linked)

Imperfect Burials: A Thriller by Thomas Henry Pope

The Treachery of the Russian Nesting Dolls by Orest Stelmach

Do you have a Matryoshka doll set? Do you collect them? Can you add to this list of books with them on the cover? As always, leave me a comment or a link to your own post on the subject

  1. I had a set of Matryoshka dolls and loved them. Since I’ve wanted to downsize, I passed them on to one of my daughters. They were so beautiful. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with nesting dolls on the cover. Will keep an eye open though.
