I’m sure by now even its fans are tired of me going on and on about how great Dean Street Press’ Furrowed Middlebrow series is, but honestly? It’s that good. That is where I discovered the following authors: (And, no they do not pay me anything!)
My reviews are linked at the end of the post.
My lazy attention span and my need for light entertainment to take my mind off unemployment led me to some fun new women’s fiction writers
And, a few others cropped up this year as well.
My Reviews
Dear Hugo by Molly Clavering
A Chelsea Concerto by Frances Faviell
Miss Plum and Miss Penny by Dorothy Evelyn Smith
The Matzah Ball by Jean Meltzer
Flora’s Traveling Christmas Shop by Rebecca Raisin
The Cornish Midwife by Jo Bartlett
We’ll Have a Wonderful Cornish Christmas by C.P. Ward
A Mackenzie Yuletide by Jennifer Ashley
The Mitford Vanishing by Jessica Fellowes
The Great Fire by Shirley Hazzard
Check out the rules at That Artsy Reader Girl and join in next week!
If you’re still looking for a new job, I’m cheering you on! Unemployment is hard.
I think the Furrowed Middlebrow series looks like so much fun to read.

Dean Street Press publish such an interesting selection of books! I enjoyed A Chelsea Concerto too, but haven’t read anything by Molly Clavering or Dorothy Evelyn Smith yet.

Your strategy has worked – I have seen you mention Dean Street many times now so just had to go and look at their site to find out what they’re all about. I don’t know many of those authors but recognised DE Stevenson (though never read her books) who sounds interesting. Making a note of that for the future…

I have Chelsea Concerto on my TBR. I’ve enjoyed her other title The Dancing Bear before.

I love Jennifer Ashley’s Below Stairs mystery series. I’ve never read her other series since I’m not a romance reader. Glad you found her and these others in 2021!
Happy TTT!

Those light books (including the one I’ve read, The Matzah Ball) really sound perfect for these more challenging days. I’m glad they saw you through unemployment! I’d like to read the Shirley Hazzard book at some point too.

Ahhh so many of your books are ones I want to read, too! The Matzah Ball looks like so much fun and I tried so hard to get to Flora’s Travelling Christmas Shop last month, but just couldn’t before Christmas! Hopefully this year. Off to look up some of your others! Thanks for participating in TTT!

Like you, I’m very fond of Dean Street (think I left a comment on your review of Miss Plum and Miss Penny) although I haven’t read much of their stuff in the last few months. Good luck with the interview! (always hated those things myself).

Thanks! I don’t think anyone, on either side, enjoys job interviews. This one went well (to me) but we’ll see if there’s an offer and what the salary is.

I’m glad you found some new authors to help you through tough times. I spent most of last year unemployed and threw myself into reading more.
