Handmade Christmas: Stocking Stuffers Part I: Mostly Grown-Up Stuff

My kids still, at 21 and 22, look forward to their stockings and the cool little stuff I find for them. I bought beautiful, customized stockings, but not much of anything fits in them. So they usually just find their pile of stocking-stuffers on the fireplace hearth! Here are some great, easy-to-make stocking stuffers for all ages.

Handmade Christmas: Knitting

Back in 1989-1991 I served in the Peace Corps. There was no television, radio was pretty lame and almost no one to talk to where I was stationed the first year. So I knit sweaters and gave them away. Today my hand goes numb if I knit very long so sweaters are out. Who knows though–maybe little by little I’ll knit one again? Maybe for me? These are all great knitted pieces. If you chose to make one for Christmas, or just for yourself, won’t you come back and post a link to a photo?

Today’s Handmade Christmas gifts are all knitted. Last week it was all crochet.

Women’s Gifts

What writer slaving away in an unheated attic would fail to swoon over these colorful fingerless mitts? They’d also be nice in my under-heated University office! Purchase & download the pattern: Entrelac Rainbow Mitts

I love the colors, the texture, the pattern–I love all of this! Not my normal colors, either. It’s supposed to echo the colors and texture of the sea and the seashore. Purchase & download the pattern: Pelagic toque and mitts. (You may have to register with the site to view or purchase the pattern.)

How gorgeous is this shawl? Snowfall on the Mountains it’s called. Gorgeous I call it! And, I’m not big on green. I love this green though! Snowfall on the Mountains shawl (scroll down to the link to buy the pattern).

This sweater is beautiful and chic enough for an evening event! Pair it with silky slacks or velvet and you have an evening ensemble. Bare shoulders are all the rage, too. Interlocking Cables Pattern is free, but you must give you e-mail address and then you get several free patterns including this beautiful one!

Speechless! This cowl is unique. The fall colors, the texture–it add interest to any winter coat or jacket. Use your imagination on the colors that suit you best. Tejido Cowl

Girl’s Gifts

This is the one sweater I might just try to knit this year! Some little shoebox recipient might just find this under a cute stuffed animal or a doll needing a friend. It’s got it ALL. Style, texture, colors–and big chunky buttons! So sophisticated, yet so simple! Love, love, love!  Mossy Jacket

These two are part of a great collection of FREE knitting patterns. Incredible styling and detail on each of the pieces. In the Loop Knitting Patterns

Love this little hoodie–even has a pocket on the front. There are variations of this pattern with long sleeves, too, but I think this is ideal–no big cuffs to get in food! Child’s Hoodie.

This is an awesome, simple little-guy sweater. Chunky and soft and hardy! Pattern  (You may have to register with the site to view or purchase the pattern.)

What toddler wouldn’t love a giant, soft bunny? (Ask the parents first!)

Who needs Disney Princesses when you can have your own Knitted Prince William and Kate? Plus Corgis and a hand-knit Archbishop of Canterbury!  This company has other really fun knitted play sets.

Men’s Gifts

This is possibly the ONLY sweater I could ever get my son to wear! I’m not going to make one, but the style is perfect for him. He lives in hoodies.  Men’s v-neck hoodie. (You may have to register with the site to view or purchase the pattern.)

I so want one of these!

It’s not Everybody Loves Raymond’s “Remote Boat,” but still cool. Source

Don’t sweat the small stuff! Stocking stuffers get their own post next week!

A Handmade Christmas: Crochet

I don’t like early Christmas posts, but some of these projects take longer than others. I want people who like an idea shown here to be able to use it this Christmas. But, I promise, no one singing “Santa Baby…” I also promise nothing like those horrible slippers Great-Aunt Whoever used to make. The handmade gift suggestions I will be presenting over the next few Fridays, should be well-received.
