This week’s topic is:
April Showers — Pick your own title for this one to reflect the direction you choose to go with this prompt (books with rain on the cover/in the title, that have rainstorms in the story, or that have anything to do with rain)
I’m showcasing books with rain, April or Spring as part of the story or title.
When available my reviews are linked.
1
Rain: Four Walks in English Weather by Melissa Harrison (nonfiction)
2
A Furious Sky by Eric Jay Dolin (nonfiction)
3
Isaac’s Story by Erik Larson (nonfiction)
4
I don’t think it really ever rained in fictional Mitford!
Come Rain or Come Shine by Jan Karon
5
A Distant Thunder by Anne Topham (nonfiction and out-of-print) [Link is to Amazon]
This is the memoir of Anne Topham — governess to Kaiser Wilhelm’s only daughter, Princess Victoria Louise. My review was lost on my old blog, but it is worth reading if you can find a used copy.
6
Illyrian Spring by Ann Bridge (fiction)
7
Spring Magic by D.E. Stevenson (fiction)
8
The Vintage Springtime Club by Beatric Meier (fiction)
9
Absent in the Spring by Agatha Christie (aka Mary Westmacott) (fiction)
10
The Enchanted April by Elizabeth von Arnim (fiction)
A Bonus Book
This is a wonderful novel of the Civil War. I read it avidly on a band trip to Ames, Iowa in high school. I have re-read a few times.
Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt (fiction) [Link is to Amazon]
This is a fun list, thanks for sharing. I didn’t know that Agatha Christie also wrote under a pen name!
Here’s my TTT this week: https://bookwyrmknits.com/2024/03/26/top-ten-tuesday-still-more-quotes-about-books/

Yes, she wrote a different sort of novel- not a murder.

The Vintage Springtime Club sounds fantastic. I haven’t heard of it before now, but I’m tossing it on my to-be-read pile.

I just added Rain and The Vintage Springtime Club to my TBR. Now I have to see if I can find them both. Nice list, Lisa.

What a great list with so many wonderful books! I started humming “Singing in the Rain” while I was reading it!
